SYRIZA Lawmakers Deny X Post Claiming Romance, Threaten Suit

ATHENS – Adding to the ruckus in the party that has besieged leader Stefanos Kasselakis, two leading SYRIZA Members of Parliament lashed out and denied an anonymous social media post alleging they were in a romantic relationship.

Sokratis Famellos – Chairman of the party’s parliamentary group as Kasselakis can’t sit because he wasn’t elected to the body – and Dora Tsambazi were upset over the posting by someone who wouldn’t reveal their identity.

The post was made under the name Ioannis and said that, “Famellos did not allocate a single euro for the SYRIZA party media because he simply does not want to. However, he spent the whole of August together with his new partner, Dora Tsambazi – whose husband Alexandros Nikolaidis, an Olympic silver medalist in Taekwando died from cancer in 2022, three years after someone on a social media post wished the disease on him – wrote: “See you in court. And then you will explain why and who made you say such vulgarities.”
Famellos wrote: “I strongly protest and call on you to immediately retract your absolutely false and defamatory post against me and make the necessary remedial action, otherwise I will take legal action against you,” neither indicating how they could pursue the law unless the poster is found.

Kasselakis wrote on X that, “The vulgarity has exceeded all limits and we now live with it every day,” after he and his spouse, American nurse Tyler McBeth were victims of homophobic slurs after posting their wedding gift list.
