SYRIZA: Instead of Supporting Society, Greek Gov’t Supports the Cartels

ATHENS – “At a time when households and businesses are suffering from the electricity bills and the Public Power Corporation (PPC) as well as other electricity companies are recording high profits at the expense of consumers, the representatives of ruling New Democracy (ND) appear in public as representatives of the cartels with ridiculous arguments and evasions,” the main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party said in a statement on Friday.

“Instead of supporting society, the New Democracy government supports the cartels. Instead of utilising the tools of the European Commission and the suggestions of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, in order to effectively support citizens and businesses against price spikes, it supports the interests of the few and powerful,” SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance added.

ATHENS - Three of Athens' historic cinemas will operate free of charge this coming Sunday to raise awareness about their potential closing if the buildings' owner decides to repurpose their properties, as is alleged by the movie theaters' owners.
