SYRIZA Critical of Greece’s Stance at Special European Council

ATHENS — "Due to the government's handling, Greece comes out the loser and without sanctions for Turkey from the European Council, with a wording that falls short of that in June 2019 on this issue," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said on Friday.

In addition, the announcement during the European Council of an agreement on a deconfliction mechanism at NATO, which the government had until recently denied it was discussing because it was an Alliance with "double standards", weakened Greece's positions and strengthened "those who – like Germany – wanted to avoid sanctions on Turkey using the pretext that it was allegedly 'complying'."

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance claimed that Thursday's decision by the European Council "does not satisfy any of the goals that [Prime Minister Kyriakos] Mitsotakis himself explicitly set."

ATHENS – After nine other political rivals of the former ruling Radical Left SYRIZA it said were involved in an alleged bribery scandal with the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis were cleared, PASOK Member of Parliament Andreas Loverdos won't face any charges either.
