SYRIZA Asks for Briefing on US State Department Report

November 11, 2020

ATHENS — Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance on Wednesday asked for an immediately briefing on the US State Department's report on Turkish violations in Greek national airspace, submitted to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees of the US Congress and Senate, based on the provisions of the East Med Act.

"If there is confirmation of information that the State Department states its inability to provide a relevant list, adopting Turkish positions for the sovereignty of Greek islands, this report is a complete failure of the foreign policy of the Mitsotakis' government and a serious blow to the country, our national interests and Greek-American relations," it said.

In addition, the main opposition stated that "if a few weeks after the visit of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Greece, the State Department expresses these positions, the New Democracy party managed in a very short time to cancel important steps in Greek-American relations, which took place during SYRIZA's governance and favoured the country's interests."
