Survey: 8 in 10 Greek Households Have Internet Access at Home

ATHENS — Eight in every 10 Greek households have access to the internet at home (80.4 pct) this year, up 73.3 pct in comparison with 2010, Hellenic Statistical Authority said in a survey released on Tuesday. The survey was conducted on 5,111 households around Greece.

The survey showed that 80 pct of households used broadband connections, up 2.4 pct from 2019, while 78.1 pct used the internet in the first quarter of 2020, up 3.2 pct from the previous year. In addition, 98 pct of those who used the internet in the first quarter of 2020 used the internet on a regular basis (at least once a week) and 88.7 pct of regular users used the internet at least twice a day.

The survey said that 88.9 pct of users sought information and services, 52.9 pct used e-governance services for personal reasons and 47.8 pct used the internet for e-purchases, of which 65 pct were clothing-footwear and 30.4 pct were computers, tablets, smart phones etc. A 71.4 pct of smart phone users had antivirus, antispam and firewall protections. It found that 37.6 pct of internet users connected through the TV, 10 pct through a game console and 9.1 pct through a smart watch.
