ATHENS – A student march was underway in downtown Athens on Friday afternoon, held to mark the 11th anniversary since the shooting murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a police officer in 2008.

Marching under the banner “We haven’t yet said our final word, these days are Alexis’ days,” the demonstrators gathered in front of the Propylea and began heading toward the Greek parliament.

Central Athens has been closed to vehicle traffic for the day and the metro station “Panepistimio” has been closed at the orders of the police, with trains passing through the station without stopping.

CAIRO — A fire ripped through a church in a densely populated neighborhood of the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Sunday as congregants worshipped, killing at least 41 and injuring 14, the Coptic Church said.
