Stoa of Attalos Museum Shut for 14 Days after Coronavirus Case

ATHENS — The Stoa of Attalos museum will shut down for 14 days after a coronavirus incidence among staff, but the outdoor areas of the ancient site of the Athenian Agora will remain open, the Ministry of Culture & Sports said, as of Monday.

A female staff member, part of the cleaning crew in the Athenian Agora, the Roman Agora and Hadrian's Library, notified the Ephorate of Antiquities in Athens that tests at a public hospital found she was infected with the novel coronavirus. She had worked through August 4 (Tuesday), while her supervisors said she was particularly assiduous in keeping all safety and health measures.

Disinfection of the museum, guard rooms, rest rooms and other areas will take place on Tuesday, while all staff will be checked by National Public Health Organization staff who will also provide directions.

ATHENS — A more than 3,000-year-old gold signet ring that was stolen from an Aegean island in World War II, crossed the Atlantic, was bought by a Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian scientist and ended up in a Swedish museum has found its way back to Greece.
