STATEN ISLAND – The Republican Party of Staten Island expressed their unequivocal condemnation of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, as well as their full support for his candidacy during a press conference held on Sunday, July 14, the day after the incident, at the county headquarters
New York State Assemblyman Mike Tannousis posted on X: “As Chairman of @GOPStatenIsland I stood with my #Republican colleagues and our county committee members today to condemn the horrific assassination attempt on President Trump. We pray for the victim that was killed during this horrific act and for the 2 people that were critically injured. We sent the clear message today that violence has no place in our political process. We support President Trump and I will be attending the #RNC convention in Milwaukee this coming week.
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis took a more partisan view, saying, “they’ve tried literally everything to try to stop him. And now someone tried to kill him because the Left has said this is somebody who’s dangerous and needs to be stopped at all costs.”
Tannousis added, “the fact is that he tried to kill President Trump. That’s it. And we are here to condemn those actions, to say violence is not the answer. Violence should not breed more violence and you want to do something about it. You don’t like the direction our country is headed? Make your voice heard in the political process and, then, the ballot box.”
On Facebook, Tannousis wrote: “My thoughts and prayers are with President Trump and I applaud the brave men and women of the secret service and law enforcement who acted quickly in this instance and who put their lives on the line every day to protect the public.”
The leader of the Republican delegation to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and Minority Leader of the New York City Council, Joseph C. Borelli, called for unity from all sides and urged citizens to participate in elections, vote, run for office, and present their ideas and proposals democratically, without resorting to violence and conflicts.
