Staikouras: Greek Economy Shows Remarkable Resilience

ATHENS – Greece can undoubtedly gain prominence through the new dynamic that is emerging in the international business and investment map,” Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Thursday. Addressing the Green Deal conference organised by the Technical Chamber of Greece in Athens, Staikouras said that despite the unpredictable, external, multi-aspected crises, the Greek economy showed remarkable resilience and strong momentum, confirming European Commission forecasts placing the country among the short-term and long-term rapidly developing economies in the Eurozone. He underlined the historic decision taken by the Eurogroup in Luxembourg that Greece should graduate from the enhanced surveillance mechanism and its return – after 12 years – to European normality.

The FinMin unveiled the plan for a timely and efficient green transition of the economy, which included the “Greece 2.0” programme, financing tools and tax policies, sustainable funding, working groups for sustainable funding and a green economic transition, transparency and sustainability in corporate governance, adopting a green budget and issuing a state green bond in 2022.
