You can find souvlaki almost anywhere because Greeks have made it a staple in any country in which they settled, especially the United States but Stella Sarros of the Greek Aloha Kitchen in Honolulu, Hawaii has desserts you won't find elsewhere.
That includes baklava chocolate chip ice cream but you'll have to dig through gyros she said are made with pork belly or chicken. “You won’t find beef or lamb on the menu in Greece,” for them, she told the site Frolic.
In her place, “you can get it with tzatziki, or Thessaloniki-style with ketchup and mustard like they serve it in Northern Greece,” Sarros said. There's also pastitsio and other Greek specialties.
Her husband Avraam Terzopoulos – who came from Kastoria – handles the chef duties and the review raved over a pita sandwich filled with pork, tomatoes, onion, tzatziki, and fries – and there's a bigger version called the Mount Olympus with double the fillings and melting mozzarella that might take your mind off that baklava ice cream that's waiting. But maybe not.
Sarros prepares the sweets and works the front. If it wouldn't melt, we'd order that ice cream online.
