So, What Do You Say Now about Biden the ‘Philhellene’?

June 30, 2023

To the Editor:

During the Donald Trump years it seemed like all the Greek-American media including your newspaper were criticizing Trump for being Erdogan’s ‘friend’ and being against Greece. A lot of Greek-Americans said Trump was pro-Turkey, but Biden was a committed friend of Greece and that he was the one who would help Greece. When I would ask about what Biden did for Greece all those years as a vice president, they dismissed the question saying that Biden is definitely the friend for Greece. Well, in actuality, the Trump administration stopped the delivery of F-35s to Turkey, which had already paid for them. Yet Trump got zero credit for this from the majority of the Greek-American press. Now our ‘philhellene’ Biden wants to give Turkey F-16s, despite Turkey’s pro-Russian stance, buying weaponry from Russia, and selling the Russians tons of drones to fight against Ukraine. Also, Russia is building a few nuclear reactors in Turkey. By the way, no word from the Biden administration about Greece getting any F-35s.

So, what do you all anti-Trumpers say now about Joe Biden the ‘philhellene’?

I’d like to know.
