Serroukas Family Reacquires DinerLuxe Which Closed in 2022

NEW MILFORD, CT – In a move contrary to the current course of events, where most family-owned diners are shutting down, a Greek-American family in New Milford, CT, is bucking the trend.

According to a report by the local publication Connecticut Insider, Peter Serroukas and his son, Dino Serroukas, completed the repurchase of the DinerLuxe restaurant seven months ago. This diner, originally founded by the Serroukas family in 2014, was sold to new owners in 2019, who, after the overall market downturn during the COVID-19 period, decided to close it in late 2022. The closure gave the impression of yet another restaurant unable to cope with the high costs and other challenges of the new era.

The Serroukas family aims to reopen the DinerLuxe as early as this fall, provided some practical issues, such as hiring and properly training staff to meet public expectations, are resolved.

Dino explained that when the opportunity came up he and his father agreed to restore it to its original state in 2014 – when it was very successful. said He seems optimistic and confident about his family’s new business venture.

Although the family does not plan to invest in a 24-hour operation, it is emphasized that the restored DinerLuxe will operate consistently seven days a week – but from 7 AM to 10 PM, featuring an expanded menu primarily based on Greek and Italian cuisine.

One innovation will be that the business will utilize external ordering and food delivery platforms like DoorDash and GrubHub and will also offer catering services. Another goal is for DinerLuxe to connect even more with the local community and production. Beyond hiring professionals from the broader area, they will seek to collaborate with local farms and meat markets.

Dino Serroukas said he enjoys training the chefs, finding motivated people, and then training them with his knowledge. The Serroukas family has a rich tradition in the restaurant business. They also own the Everready Diner in Brewster and Hyde Park, with Peter’s father, Gus Serroukas, having started this endeavor decades ago with a small café in the Flushing neighborhood.
