Seismologists Appear Cautious over Quake in Desfina

October 10, 2022

ATHENS – Seismologists continued to be cautious on Monday in their assessment of the magnitude 5 Richter earthquake recorded early on Sunday near Desfina, in the Fokida region, noting the lack of aftershocks in the aftermath of the tremor.

“We don’t have a post-seismic sequence at present and this fact make us particularly cautious. We will wait today and tomorrow to see the progress and we re-evaluate the situation in a week,” stated the President of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Agency (OASP) Efthymios Lekkas to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

As he pointed out, the area is very sensitive and special attention is needed, while he urged people to be careful and observe the earthquake protection measures recommended by the state.
