Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
PATRAS — A light tremor was felt around 8:15 on Friday in Patras and in the wider area of Achaia.
According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was located 9.0 km south of Patras, while its focal depth was at 14 km.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the quake had a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was 11 km south of Patras.
As of 5:30 on Friday, at least six weak earthquakes have been felt in Patras, ranging in magnitude from 3.1 to 2.3 on the Richter scale, which were accompanied by a deafening roar.
Efthymios Sokos, Professor of Geology at the University of Patras and the Laboratory of Seismology, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, "a seismic sequence is underway since early this morning, focusing on the wider area of Halandritsa. The area is known for its seismicity and we are monitoring the phenomenon."
