Second Shipment with Aid to Lebanon Departed from Greece on Monday

ATHENS — The second shipment with food, construction materials and medical supplies left on Monday, carried by the warship IKARIA from Skaramangas to Lebanon.

Attending the warship's departure, the head of organising the mission at the foreign ministry, Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Fragogiannis, and National Defence General Staff Chief General Konstantinos Floros sent the message that Greece is present whenever anything happens in its neighbourhood and wants to ensure that Lebanon will stand on its feet with independence, as it deserves.

The ship departed loaded with 180 tons of aid that was collected in only 17 days by the Foreign Ministry and following Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' initiative for a second dispatch of aid to the embattled people of Lebanon.

Embassy of Lebanon expresses gratitude to Greece for its support

The Embassy of Lebanon to Greece on Monday expressed the country's great gratitude and respect for the Greek government and the Greek people, who "reaffirmed the depth of the friendship that binds them with the people of the Lebanon, expressing their solidarity and stable support after the fatal explosion in Beirut on August 2020."

The Embassy announcement was issued following the departure of a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Lebanon, carried by the warship "Ikaria", which set sail for Beirut from Salamina naval base on Monday.
