San Francisco City Hall Celebrates 200th Anniversary of Greek Independence

SAN FRANCISCO – On the evening of March 25, 2021, about 200 people randomly gathered at Civic Center Plaza in front of an illuminated San Francisco City Hall in blue and white lights to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Greek Independence.   

At one point the crowd spontaneously began to sign the Greek national anthem in unison followed by cheers of “ZITO HELLAS, ΖΗΤΩ H ΕΛΛΑΣ”. 

Someone in the crowd then turned on a portable Bluetooth speaker, started playing Greek music, and everyone was dancing with joy, pride, and high spirit.  It was truly a special moment of unity, reflection, and celebration to what otherwise was a glorious and proud day.
