Sakellaropoulou: Egypt, Greece Are Pillars of Stability in a Troubled Region

November 11, 2020

ATHENS — "Egypt, Greece are pillars of stability in a troubled region" is the title of the English edition of Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram on Wednesday.

Greece’s President Katerina Sakellaropoulou told Al-Ahram on Tuesday that both Greece and Egypt are pillars of security and stability in a troubled region.

In exclusive statements to Al-Ahram, Sakellaropoulou said that the trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus is establishing a mechanism for stability and legitimacy in the South East Mediterranean region.

"There are more horizons for deepening the cooperation between Egypt and Greece in a way that will not only benefit the peoples the two countries, but all peoples in the region," Sakellaropoulou said.

The Greek tourism market is seeing a remarkable recovery and while it is most obvious in Athens – that’s where the media is – the powerful signs include the packed ferries and planes that connect with the islands of the South Aegean, with their iconic whitewashed houses that are what most people outside Greece think about when they contemplate visiting.
