Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
A great honorary distinction with the 5 top gold awards of the ARISTOLEO High Phenolic Table Olive Awards 2021 for Sakellaropoulos organic farms (https://www.bioarmonia.gr/), held in Toronto, Canada for the 6th consecutive year.
Aristoleo High Phenolic Table Olive Awards is the international competition that counts the high beneficial ingredients (phenols) found in table olives. These beneficial ingredients in table olives are called phenols, mainly hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol and their derivatives.
These phenols are powerful micronutrients, with excellent pharmacological action, belonging to natural antioxidants with significant biological activity and have been attributed anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cardioprotective and neuroprotective properties.
These health-protective ingredients are now measurable with great accuracy by the method of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) used by Greek scientists at the Department of Pharmacy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry) in collaboration with the World Olive Center for Health, UC Davis California as well as other university departments abroad.
The international competition ARISTOLEO High Phenolic Table Olive Awards 2021 is based on the measurement of the total amount of tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol (predominant phenolic compounds) as measured by the NMR method.
It was completed on April 23, 2021 and the results showed that the table olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms are at the top worldwide in phenol content and for this they ranked in the first places of the competition, collecting a double gold and four gold awards, winning all 5 top places.
This is one of the reasons why the table olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms have participated in clinical studies concerning human health. Recently, professor Mr. Magiatis Prokopis analyzed the results of the new clinical study conducted with the organic Kalamata type olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms in over 100 patients, which showed that with the consumption of 5 olives a day for a month, cholesterol can be reduced by up to 50 units, without any other medication or dietary changes.
Sakellaropoulos organic farms complete the unique number of 238 awards in international competitions for the taste, the quality and the health protective aspect of their olive products.
Asked what makes their organic products stand out in the global competition, the owner of the company George Sakellaropoulos said in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA): "For the past 30 years in Sakellaropoulos organic farms, we have absolutely believed in the health protective character of our specialized olive products. This is now proven, both by official measurements and scientific methods, and by the participation of our products in clinical trials under the auspices of universities in Greece and abroad. This opens new horizons for the organic olive products that we produce exclusively in our organic farms, which now have recognized benefits to human health, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life. The term bio-functional foods becomes the most appropriate to describe the very high quality products of Sakellaropoulos organic farms, produced with specific methods and under special conditions, providing them with a unique global passport to the global market."
As for the high levels of useful ingredients, he explained: "Focusing on very high quality is a difficult path, but it is the path chosen by Sakellaropoulos organic fsrms, without any deviation throughout all these years. We use the most natural techniques, without the use of chemicals or additives, without thermal or chemical treatment.
For the organic table olives of our farms, in particular, we follow the process of many months of natural fermentation with scientific monitoring, without pasteurization and with the application of strict standards for their quality and safety.
The combination of all these factors led the organic table olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms in the top positions in the world for their health protective value."
