LOS ANGELES – The Greek Orthodox Christian community and the Saint Sophia Philoptochos Society (SSPS) honored fifteen Debutantes from Southern California at their 54th Bi-Annual Debutante Ball which was held at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills on September 3.
The Ball is the largest fundraiser for the SSPS and provides the young ladies an opportunity to contribute to their local communities as well as raise funds to benefit the Philoptochos Society’s sponsored local and national charities, such as Los Angeles Mission, Kids‘n’ Cancer, and International Orthodox Christian Charities. The SSPS has been dedicated to helping those in need for more than 80 years.
Being a debutante is more than just being presented into society; it is a demarcation that these ladies have embarked on a life-long journey to give back to society. These teens volunteered at such organizations as Children’s Hospital, Camp Axios, The Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, Los Angeles Food Bank, Scripps Memorial Hospital, Union Station and Door of Hope. The Ball was a celebration of these young ladies as symbols of the next generation of women who will dedicate their lives to philanthropy.
The spectacular gala was hosted by actor and Days of Our Lives star, Theo Penghlis, who eloquently reminded the guests that they were there to reaffirm their commitment to charity and to this wonderful organization.
