S.G. Art Gallery Presents Demetrius Manouselis’ First Solo Exhibition in Athens

ATHENS – S.G. Art Gallery presents New York-based Greek-American artist Demetrius Manouselis’ first solo exhibition in Athens opening Thursday, February 2, 7:30 PM, and running through February 25. The exhibition sponsor is York Studios New York.

Demetrius Manouselis was born in Chania, Crete, and grew up in Athens. He immigrated at the age of 16 with his family to New York and studied Architecture at Pratt Institute in New York.

Art historian Manos Stefanidis writes: “The abstract painter resembles the blinded Oedipus. He doesn’t need to see, because he knows… The famous American abstract expressionism and more specifically, the New York School was aesthetically completed based on the creative relationship or the confrontation of artists such as Rothko, Clifford Still, Newman but also the Greek-Americans William Baziotes, Chryssa, Steven Antonakos, Mike Lekakis, Theodoros Stamos, Jean Xeron and many others.”

Stefanidis continues: “Manouselis, a younger painter and architect who lives in New York from the age of 16, is clearly their prolific follow-up. A continuation that we must understand, know and recognize. Because his painting while drawing on this very solid tradition of the New York school is distinguished by its structural adequacy and its aesthetic adequacy.”

His art work has appeared in several group exhibitions at various art galleries and venues including: The Other Art Fair Expo, Brooklyn, NY; Paris Koh Fine Arts, NYC; Jeffrey Leder Gallery, Long Island City, NY; Gold Coast Art Center, Great Neck, NY; Kouros Gallery NYC; Clover’s Fine Art; Tenri Cultural Center of New York; Bayside Historical Society Group Exhibition; Andre Zarre Gallery, NYC; Tenri Cultural Institute of New York; Long Island City Artists Open Studios, Studio B Gallery in Long Island City, NY.

Solo Exhibitions include this year’s exhibition at S.G. Art Gallery, Athens, Greece; Mosaic Art Space, LIC, NY, in 2019; The Other Art Fair, NY, in 2018; Jeffrey Leder Gallery, LIC, NY, in 2017;Kouros Gallery, NYC 2009; and Andre Zarre Gallery, NYC in 2005 and 2002.
