ATHENS – In spite of the adversities of the pandemic – closed hotels, restaurants, etc., the organizing and implementing ‘Run Messinia: Run for freedom,’ a historic journey through all these glorious places continues.
Any Greek who reads and learns in detail the history of Greece, on the occasion of the 200 years since the Revolution, will feel pride for every part of that enchanting peninsula, the largest in the country: the Peloponnese.
Historic places associated with the Greek Revolution are located in the Peloponnese, including Nedousa, Poliani, Diavolitsi, Katsaros, Stoupa, Kardamyli, Ramovouni, Mani, Saint Nikitas Sellas, Tripyla, Maniaki, Loutro, Zerbisia, Agios Andreas, Dyrachio, Neochori, Ano Psari, Schinolakka, and the place where everything to a head for the Greek Revolution, at Navarino Bay, the Bay of Freedom for the Greeks.
The event spotlights places that people should learn about and monuments that everyone should visit. Eight municipalities of the Peloponnese helped in this effort from the very first moment with whatever means they possessed, and with genuine Greek soul, as the Greek long-distance runners changed their training programs in order to run these difficult routes.
The final date of the 10 marathons in total in 10 days will be held on October 2-11, 2021. Run Messinia will start on October 2 from Mani and will conclude in Pylos on October 11. The closing of this event will take place in the historic city of Pylos, including various activities.
The Municipalities partnering to support Run Messinia and contributing to the event’s smooth implementation are the following: East Mani Municipality, West Mani Municipality, Kalamata Municipality, Megalopoli Municipality, Messini Municipality, Oichalia Municipality, Pylos-Nestor Municipality, Trifylia Municipality.
Vikos Natural Mineral Water is the event’s Official Water.
Run Messinia will leave a legacy for the future of the place, as it has already started highlighting and promoting through its social media the historical places, the battles, and all the monuments, which are located in the three regions and through which runners will pass during the run.
The event will be held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization. The difficult task of the event’s planning and implementation has been undertaken by the award-winning ActiveMedia Group through its Sports Production department.
More information on the schedule, routes, and details of Run Messinia will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
