ATHENS – Protesting highschool teachers and students, who are demanding that the government withdraw the draft education bill on access to higher education and the mergers of universities with Technological Educational Institutes (TEIs), reached Syntagma Square and the parliament on Friday afternoon.

Roads around central Athens were closed due to the protest action by teachers, who have called a 24-hour strike.

The state-sector secondary school teachers’ union OLME announced a 24-hour strike in protest against the education ministry’s draft bill. The protest action is taking place ahead of the draft legislation being tabled in parliament.
