Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
He’s written about the right way to cook lamb and his restaurants, including Fishtag, and three locations of MP Taverna in Long Island, Astoria, and Westchester, New York draw crowds who want Greek food but chef Michael Psilakis likes fast food too.
And for him, that’s KFC, which used to be known as Kentucky Fried Chicken and is known for finger licking good chicken and even Psilakis can’t resist it from time to time, he said.
“I treat myself to KFC about three times a year,” he told Esquire. His standard order during those occasional excursions is an entire bucket of the Colonel’s famous fried chicken, which is all about one element for Psilakis, said the magazine.
“I love that crunchy fried crust. It’s like the crumb on top of crumb cake; the chicken is an afterthought, really,” he said, echoing what keeps people heading into KFC when they have a craving, even famous chefs.
He made his name in the business cooking traditional Greek cuisine, especially after appearing on food shows such as Iron Chef America, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, and No Kitchen Required.
