Reichel: Research and Innovation a Reason for German Companies to Operate in Greece

November 24, 2021

ATHENS – “I am convinced that innovation is the key to new investments, progress and greater competitiveness. This applies to both Germany and Greece,” the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Greece, Dr. Ernst Reichel, said on Wednesday in his greeting to the “2nd Innovation Forum 2021 – Innovation leads developments” cooorganised by the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the German Embassy.

“The driving force of start-ups is particularly important for the economic recovery of Greece. These companies effectively combine research and development with the creation of prospects for products that can be provided to the market. This is how continuous and sustainable development occurs. This creates well-paid jobs here in Greece. This is something that the young men and women in Greece, who in the years of the economic and social crisis, were active, in many cases with great success, abroad, rightly expect. In addition, I am convinced that Greece and Germany are destined to work together in the field of innovation. They have so much to offer each other,” he underlined.

Referring to the role of innovation in general, he said: “Growth driven by innovation is the best guarantee that in Germany, in Greece but also in Europe as a whole, we will be able to maintain or even further develop our prosperity. We live in a world that is changing and evolving at an ever-increasing rate. Just think of the huge transformation we need to make to curb climate change. It will greatly change the life of each one of us. If we invest generously in the power of innovation, research and technology, then this transformation, which our societies and economies are today in the midst of, will offer us great opportunities on the level of global competition.”
