Rain, Snow, Wind Slam Parts of New England and New York

BOSTON — A storm is bringing rain, snow and a messy morning commute to New England and northern New York just as it appeared spring weather was arriving.

The areas around Providence, Rhode Island; Hartford, Connecticut; and Boston are getting mostly heavy rain and wind, but parts of northern New England and New York could see a fair amount of wet, heavy snow, especially in higher elevations.

Some interior areas could get as much as 10 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The spring snow was merely a nuisance for most areas.

But more than 4 inches had fallen in rural stretches of New York's Hudson Valley by Friday morning, with similar accumulations in Princeton, Massachusetts.

Winter weather warnings or advisories were posted for large swaths of Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. The storm could linger in some areas into Saturday.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District and union leaders said Friday they reached a deal on pay raises for bus drivers, custodians and other support staff after a three-day strike that shut down the nation's second-largest school system.
