Princess Theodora to Marry Lawyer Fiancé in Greece

LONDON, UK – Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark is set to marry her lawyer fiancé this fall in Athens, according to media reports – “after the couple previously postponed their wedding date twice,” Tatler reported, noting that Theodora, “who was born in London, started dating Matthew Kumar in 2016, with the couple announcing their engagement in November 2018.”

“They initially set the date for their wedding in 2020 and planned to tie-the-knot on the Greek island of Spetses – until they were forced to delay the event because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Tatler reported, adding that “they rescheduled a second time after the tragic loss of Theodora’s father, [the former] King Constantine of Greece, in January 2023.”

The couple was photographed at the recent memorial service for Constantine at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England.

Now, the wedding plans now seem to be in motion once again and according to Hello! Greece, “the pair will be tying the knot in Athens in the autumn,” Tatler reported, noting that “while Princess Theodora works as an actress, starring as secretary Alison Montgomery in The Bold and the Beautiful, Kumar was born in southern California. The two were living in LA when they met.”

“Announcing their engagement [in 2018], Theodora, who attended Woldingham School in Surrey, shared the happy news on Instagram, saying: ‘Words can’t express our happiness and excitement. I can’t wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you, Matt,’” Tatler reported, adding that “at the time, her parents separately released a statement saying: ‘Their Majesties King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie are delighted to announce the engagement of their youngest daughter Theodora to Mr. Matthew Kumar. Further details about the forthcoming wedding will be provided in due course. Mr. Matthew Kumar, 34, was born and raised in Southern California to Sam and Lonnie Kumar. He is a practicing attorney in Los Angeles.’”

“When their wedding was postponed for a first time, Theodora celebrated with her husband-to-be,” Tatler reported, noting that “she posted a snap of herself with Matthew on Instagram, with the pair enjoying a romantic evening dining on Greek salad, olives, bread and cheese and shared a tipple.”

She posted along with the photo: “On what should have been our wedding weekend – the love and support from friends and family have been so appreciated. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you in Greece once it’s safe,” Tatler reported.

“The second wedding date for the couple came in ‘early summer’ in 2023, with the couple hoping to get married in Porto Heli, Greece,” Tatler reported, adding that “tragically, just weeks after the wedding date was announced, the Greek Royal Household shared the news Constantine had passed away.”

“Two months later, the princess posted a tribute to him on Instagram which read, ‘It’s been two months since you left us. Miss you everyday Papa. Love you,’” Tatler reported.

The fall wedding, According to Hello! Greece, the wedding is now set for this fall, “with the bride set to wear her original wedding gown, a dress designed by Celia Kritharioti,” Tatler reported, noting that Theodora’s eldest brother Pavlos will likely “perform the role of ‘giving her away.’”
