President Sakellaropoulou Visits Chios

ATHENS — President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou visited on Sunday the historic village Anavato on the island of Chios, which is "a living image of the disaster caused on the island by the terrible massacre by the Turks in the spring of 1822."

"Today we honor," the President of the Hellenic Republic said, "the memory of the thousands of people who were lost. And at the same time we praise the inexhaustible spirit of those who survived, those who returned to the island and reborn it from its ashes, following the urging of their compatriot Adamantios Korais."

Later, the President will visit the Chios Metropolis, the Public Central Historical Library of Chios "Korais" and the Folklore Museum.
