ATHENS – The President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou received main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party leader Stefanos Kasselakis at the Presidential Mansion earlier on Tuesday.
Sakellaropoulou congratulated Kasselakis on his election and wished him success in his new role, noting that he is called upon to exercise his duties in a period full of challenges arising from the climate crisis.
Kasselakis told Sakellaropoulou that he had witnessed the problems faced by the residents of Thessaly who were hit by the recent floods, noting that many needed the state’s support immediately and underlining that “whatever we can do on our part, as main opposition, for the specific matter, we will do.”
In statements after the meeting, Kasselakis reported having a long discussion with the President, adding that it had touched on issues of achieving consensus but also, on his part, on issues relating to Greeks abroad and all that he witnessed during his tour of Thessaly and Central Greece. He said that it had been a very constructive discussion, “which we will further cultivate with the president over the coming years” and that they also talked about his upcoming visit to Cyprus.
