ATHENS -- "A nationwide struggle is required so that the Greek people do not pay the cost of the Public Power Corporation's (PPC) deregulation and privatisation," the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoumbas, said on Thursday after a meeting with the PPC workers' union, GENOP-DEI.
"As GENOP-DEI, we informed the KKE Central Committee General Secretary, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, about the government's sudden, criminal decision to proceed with the full privatisation of PPC through a share capital increase. A move that will be disastrous for Greek households, businesses and the people in general. Seventy-one years after the establishment of the PPC, for reasons of public interest, [big] interests are coming forward and demanding that the government privatise PPC. We think that the people must resist this process in order to prevent what is, in our opinion, a national crime," the president of GENOP-DEI, Giorgos Adamidis, said.
