Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.

Οn Tuesday 27, Greek-American police officer was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver as he was directing traffic away from the scene of an earlier deadly crash, police said.
Anastasios Tsakos, 43, was on the Long Island Expressway in Queens just before 2 a.m. when he was struck by a car driven by a woman who was intoxicated and driving with a suspended license, Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said at a news conference.
Shea said the driver who struck the officer was apprehended soon after.
Jessica Beauvais, 32, of Hempstead, was arrested on multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed driving and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
As she was being walked out of a police station in handcuffs Tuesday afternoon, a tearful Beauvais told reporters: “I’m sorry because I hit him and that he’s dead.”
The fallen officer was a 14-year veteran of the police department who leaves a wife and two young children, officials said.
