PM Mitsotakis: Greece Fully Supports Commission Proposal for Recovery Fund

ATHENS — Greece fully supports the European Commission's proposal for the coronavirus-related Recovery Fund, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the EU Council which met on Friday by teleconference.

Government sources said that Mitsotakis strongly supported the Recovery Fund at a meeting with European leaders, calling the fund, budgeted at 750 billion euros, "a very good starting point; it must not drop below that."

He also said the distribution ratio should not change, and warned that markets have already taken into account the amount and "anything different will create a serious problem."

Among other issues, sources said, the premier also requested that the violation of sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus by Turkey should also be included in the summit of July in Brussels.
