ATHENS – Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has telephoned crane owner Michalis Protopsaltis, whose efforts were instrumental in saving the lives of 80 people in a migrant boat that was shipwrecked near the island of Kythera, it was announced on Sunday.

Mitsotakis congratulated and thanked him for his efforts, stressing that Greeks will continue to save the human lives that are placed at risk by ruthless human trafficking networks.

Protopsaltis set up his crane on the cliffs above the shipwreck, using it to bring up the dozens of people trapped at its base in very dangerous conditions.
