Philoptochos of Staten Island Honored Fr. Nicholas Petropoulakos

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Staten Island held its annual dinner on May 21 at the packed catering hall Li Greci’s.

The event’s central theme was the ‘Wild West’ with guests dressed appropriately and entertained with music befitting the theme.

Philoptochos President Dee Sidiropoulos said in her welcoming remarks that “today, we honor our presiding priest since 1996, Fr. Nicholas, who is always by our side with love and spiritual guidance.”

“Together we strive to fulfill our sacred purpose in the best possible way,” she continued. “The Philoptochos of Staten Island is composed of able and worthy ladies, who know well what it means to help people in need. A big thank you to the Philoptochos Societies of the communities of Brooklyn, the Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen, Kimisis tis Theotokou, Holy Cross, Three Hierarchs, and the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and St. Barbara in Manhattan, who are with us today and support our work. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the poor and needy. Have a nice and restful summer everyone.”

The Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas community’s presiding priest Fr. Nicholas Petropoulakos thanked the ladies of the Philoptochos for the great honor, praised the work they do, and the Christian principles and the love they show towards their fellow man.

He said: ”When I came to this parish with my family, the Philoptochos was the first to welcome us and made us feel like family. Charity is an integral part of the pastoral activity of the Orthodox Church. We are very proud that our community has such an active Philoptochos Brotherhood. Congratulations to all the members.”

“This year I complete 50 years in the priesthood, a truly incredible number when I think about it,” Fr. Petropoulakos noted. “But they go by so fast when you’re doing something you love. As I retire as your presiding priest, I pray that God will grant me many more years to spend with you as our work continues into the future.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to Presvytera Panagiota, it was God’s will that we walk together in life and serve Him together,” Fr. Petropoulakos said.

Assistant priest Fr. Vasileios Apostolidis emphasized that the initiative of Philoptochos to honor Fr. Nicholas undoubtedly reflects the appreciation, respect, love, and recognition of the community’s presiding priest of 28 years.

“I wholeheartedly praise and congratulate the president of the Philoptochos Society, Dee Sidiropoulos, as well as all the members, for this excellent initiative,” he said. “May the Lord bless us all with health, prosperity, and always guide our philanthropic feelings.”

Parish Council President Andreas Economou congratulated the Philoptochos for their great work in the community and thanked Fr. Petropoulakos for his excellent liturgical, pastoral, and administrative work over the years.
