Paros Animal Welfare Society Fundraiser in Sausolito Coming

SAUSALITO, CALIF. – A fundraiser for PAWS (the  Paros Animal Welfare Society) is set to take place on April 9 in Sausalito, coordinated by locals James and Janet Turner, who are on PAWS’ Board of Directors.

According to its website, paws.org, it is “a nonprofit organization and depends on membership fees, donations and volunteers to carry out its work. We have been active since 1995 and became an official body in 1999.

Our goals are to rescue and rehome abandoned dogs, manage the dog shelter (35-45 dogs on average), transport and provide medical treatment to injured stray cats and dogs, find local homes for needy kittens and cats, organize weekly stray cat neutering at discount rates, feed cat communities (currently 16 cat colonies) at garbage bins and parking lots when local restaurants close, helping  neighborhoods manage their stray cat and dog communities, by encouraging owners to neuter their pets, working with the island vets, the schools, the municipality, the police and the church to raise awareness about animal welfare, and reporting animal abuse to the police; encourage the legislation to prosecute violators.

The Turners live on Paros for part of the year.
