Parish of ‘Zoodochos Pigi’ Celebrates August 15th in The Bronx

BRONX, NY – With a celebration reminiscent of an authentic ‘panagiri’ in the homeland marking the August 15 Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, like the countless ones that take place throughout Greece in the August period, the Community of Zoodochos Pigi – ‘The Life-Giving Fountain’ – in the Bronx honored the Virgin Mary.

The festival, which took place on the eve of the great feast also known as The Assumption, gathered young and old in the environs of the church. The parish’ spiritual leader, Father Vasileios Louros, along with the volunteers, welcomed the people from the community and beyond to festivities accompanied by traditional Greek music. The delicious Greek food, combined with the positive atmosphere, created a scene similar to that of the community’s annual fundraising festival, which occurred about a month-and-a-half ago, with comparable success.
