ATHENS – Two Turkish Air Force F-16s flew over the Levitha, an island in the European Union’s Natura 2000 network, infringing on the Athens Flight Information Region (FIR), at 24,300 feet.
According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, the pair of fighter planes entered the Athens FIR without submitting flight plans at 15:03, between Limnos and Lesvos islands.
At 15:31 they flew over Levitha and exited the Athens FIR nearly half an hour later, around 15:59, east of Rhodes.
The Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek fighter planes.
