A steak can be well done =καλά ψημένη, or medium =μέτρια ψημένη.

Τhe words ψητή and τηγανητή are adjectives and the word ψημένη is the present participle of the verb ψήνω (=grill, roast). In Greek the adjectives and the participles like the nouns have different forms regarding the case, the number and the grammatical gender. Their case, number, and gender agree with the nouns that follow. The endings of the masculine, feminine, and neuter gender adjectives and participles are the same like the endings of the nouns. Thus the endings of the feminine gender adjectives and participles are –α or –η. Η τηγανητή πατάτα (=the fried potato), οι τηγανητές πατάτες (=French fries). Η καλά ψημένη μπριζόλα (=the well dome steak), οι καλά ψημένες μπριζόλες (=the well done steaks). The words καλά and μέτρια are adverbs. The adverbs usually end in –α.

In the tables below more feminine food vocabulary nouns are cited in the singular and in the plural. The well known Greek salad in Greek is called rustic salad (=χωριάτικη). If you just say χωριάτικη, Greeks will understand that you are talking about the Greek salad. Typical Greek soups are the chicken soup, the tomato soup, the lentil and the beans soup. French fries are πατάτες τηγανητές and roasted potatoes are πατάτες ψητές. Η μερίδα is the portion.
