Our Everyday Greek: Do you Love Me? Say it in Greek!

Με αγαπάς; Do you love me?

I love you is Σε αγαπάω or Σε αγαπώ.

WHOM DO YOU LOVE?Ποιοναγαπάς;

ΑγαπάωτονΚώστα. I love Kostas.

Αγαπάω την Ελένη. IloveEleni.

Αγαπάω τη μαμά μου. I love my mom.

Αγαπάω τον μπαμπά μου. I love my dad.

Αγαπάω τον άντρα μου. Ilovemyhusband.

Αγαπάω τη γυναίκα μου. I love my wife.

Τhe articles το (ν) and τη (ν) refer to the accusative case of the person’s name. Τον is for men and την for women. Note that the masculine names in the accusative case omit the final -ς. We don’t say τονΚώστας, but τονΚώστα.

DΟES HE/SHE LOVE ME? Μεαγαπάει;

Αγαπάει is the third person singular present tense of the verb αγαπάω. Με isme, μου ismy.

Ο άντρας μου με αγαπάει.               Myhusbandlovesme.

Η γυναίκα μου με αγαπάει.             My wife loves me.

WHO LOVES WHOM?Ποιον αγαπάει;

Η Μαρία αγαπάει τον Πέτρο. MarialovesPetros.

Η Ελένη αγαπάει τον Κώστα. Eleni loves Kostas.

IS HE/SHE IN LOVE? Είναι ερωτευμένη;Είναιερωτευμένος;

Ερωτευμένος is the male person who is in love and ερωτευμένη is the female person, who is in love. With is με and always goes with the accusative case of the person.

Είμαι ερωτευμένη με τον άντρα μου. I am in love with my husband.

Ο άντρας μου είναι ερωτευμένος με εμένα. My husband is in love with me.

Είμαι ερωτευμένος με τη γυναίκα μου. I am in love with my wife.

Η γυναίκα μου είναι ερωτευμένη με εμένα. My wife is in love with me.

Εμείς αγαπάμετηγιαγιά.       EMEES ayaPAme TEE yiayiA.      We love grandma.
