Ordination of Rev. Deacon Evangelos Karapoulios

LONG BEACH, CA – The faithful from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach, CA witnessed the ordination of Evangelos Karapoulios to the Holy Diaconate by His Grace Bishop Ioannis of Phocaea on Sunday, June 19, 2022. Also participating in the service were Rev. Father Christos Kanakis, proistamenos from the Assumption Church; Rev. Father Steven Tsichlis, proistamenos from Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine, CA; and Rev. Deacon Justin Bosl from the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Castro Valley, CA. Rev. Father Konstantinos Douvikas chanted at the service.

Deacon Evangelos is a 2021 graduate of Diaconate program at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. He was born in Krania, Grevena, Greece, and moved to Toronto, Canada when he was eight years old. In 1990 he settled in southern California when he got married. Since that time, he and his family have been active stewards at the Assumption Church. He previously served on the Parish Council, director of the Sunday School, and volunteer for the Food Festival.

Deacon Evangelos holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Finance from California State University – Fullerton. He the owner-operator Jolly Boy Burgers Bell Gardens, CA. He is also head coach of a high school varsity basketball team at a private Christian school in Newport Beach, CA.

Deacon Evangelos is married to Diakonissa Eleni (Exacoustos), and they are the parents of Tia (28) and Gregory (27).
