This is a historic moment for the United States. A great moment in our country’s political history

A moment that, regardless of the outcome of the elections, creates a precedent, a triumph, a point of inspiration, hope, and joy for the minorities - and especially for the Blacks of this country.

The choice of Kamala Harris to run for vice president on the Democratic ballot was clearly the product of tough political calculations. She was chosen because it is obviously thought that she will help get Joe Biden elected as President of the United States. Otherwise he would not have chosen her.

And yet, the fact that a Black woman is thought to increase Biden's chances of being elected is a matter of great importance.

Not only because great sacrifices were needed but also because this country - from the beginning of its foundation (and even from the Civil War onwards) - fought with itself and its conscience over the value and place of Blacks in it. It is also a fact that today, after everything that has happened and is happening, and especially after the murder of George Floyd, this is a response to the demands of society.

That is the point.

So, in the worst case scenario, Biden made a historic decision without jeopardizing his election. This is a safe choice - so far. He adds to his campaign, without subtracting anything.

President Trump immediately accused her of being vicious – nasty – and of being an extreme leftist.

It's hard to make that stick, because Harris was a prosecutor…

Can you be both a prosecutor and an extreme leftist?

After all, just a few weeks ago, Trump said that Harris would be a "good" choice and, even before he became president, he had contributed to her campaign.

Harris's selection has another interesting point:  her CV.

She is the daughter of two scientists, a mother from India and a father from Jamaica, who divorced when she was 11 years old.

She is a bit like Obama in that respect.

Now, the election campaign officially begins and in less than three months we will have elections for the presidency of the country.

This electoral contest is expected to be particularly fierce, full of insults, and thus, unworthy of the country.

But Kamala Harris is tough and resilient.

In this environment, therefore, she will play a leading role.

She will be the tip of Biden's spear in the attacks against Trump.

We live in historical times.
