On the Paris Olympics

To the Editor:

Thank you for your coverage of the Olympics which started off with the controversial opening ceremony but eventually settled down into the spectacle of the athletic competition, as it should. Congratulations to all the athletes, because it is difficult for the average person to comprehend how much sacrifice goes into the achievement of merely qualifying for the Games, not only from each athlete but indeed from each athlete’s family and their loved ones. Though Greece and Cyprus are small countries compared to the countries that pick up most of the medals at the Olympics, it always fills me with great pride to see the athletes competing and doing well whether it is a personal best that they set or if they earn a medal. I look forward to seeing them compete every time.
