Omirou Meets Cyprus-US Chamber

Yiannakis Omirou, the President of Cyprus’ parliament  met on September 2 with the Cyprus-U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in New York. Many items were on the agenda, including the economy and tourism.

“The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, that wraps up today,” CNA reported.

Among the participants was PSEKA President Philip Christopher and CNA noted that “Chamber members raised a number of issues and suggestions, concerning competitiveness, tourism and attracting US investments,”  and that “Omirou said he would forward all suggestions both to the government and the House of Representatives.”


NICOSIA — Thousands of workers in Cyprus, including government employees, teachers and builders walked off the job Thursday for an island-wide, three-hour work stoppage to protest what they claim is employers’ backpedaling on a deal for inflation-linked pay increases.
