Oikonomou: Report on Press Freedom Proves That Greece Is on the European Average

ATHENS – Greece is on the European average, surpassing the performance of many countries with long tradition and at the same time lagging behind only of a few in terms of press freedom based on the findings of the Media Pluralism Monitor report, which is held under the auspices of the Council of Europe, government spokesperson Yiannis Oikonomou said on Friday in a post on Facebook, adding that it is recorded “in the stubbornness of those who do not miss the opportunity to slander our country, while at the same time defaming the Greek media and the press.”

He concluded that “with our new legislative initiatives, the performance of our country will be constantly improving. The truth is simple and is not overshadowed.”

In defiance of those who do not miss the opportunity to slander Greece, while defaming the Greek media and the representatives of the press, the findings of the Media Pluralism Monitor report (under the auspices of the Council of Europe) show that, in terms of press freedom, Greece is in the European average, exceeding the performance of many countries with a long tradition and at the same time lagging behind only a few. In fact, with our new legislative initiatives, the performance of our country will be constantly improving. The truth is simple and not overshadowed.
