NEW YORK – The New York Post’s Page Six section on September 8 featured the celebration of the 77th birthday of billionaire John Catsimatidis at Cipriani 42nd Street. The cake and his many celebrity friends made their appearance during annual gala of the 77 WABC radio station which he owns.
WABC host Tony Orlando (most famous for his hit song ‘Tie a Yellow Ribbon’) was “honored at the event, where Orlando reunited with his backup group, Dawn.
Catsimatidis and his wife, Margo, always throw a September bash for any pals with Virgo birthdays, a tradition they started years ago at the Metropolitan Club,” the article noted.
“After the couple took over WABC, they moved the event to Cipriani to expand the gala. On Friday, there were at least 40 other Virgos celebrating with the couple,” the article continued, adding that “a spy said of the gala, ‘Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent [the duo known as Dawn] had not performed with Tony Orlando in decades… John and Margo flew them in for the big surprise. They sang ‘Tie A Yellow Ribbon’, ‘Candida’, and ‘Knock Three Times’ and the audience went crazy.”
In attendance were politicians like U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, David Paterson, Anthony Weiner, as well as radio legend Bruce ‘Cousin Brucie’ Morrow, former SNL comic Joe Piscopo, ex-NYPD top cop Ray Kelly, Bill de Blasio, Red Apple Media president Chad Lopez, John’s daughter Andrea Catsimatidis, Bill O’Reilly, Larry Kudlow, Jeanine Pirro, Lally Weymouth, and anchor Ernie Anastos.
