Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS — It is the first time the number of those applying for asulum at reception and identification centers on the Greek islands has dropped under 10,000 since 2015, the Migration and Asylum Ministry said on Friday.
In a statement, the ministry said its data showed that the number of asylum applicants on the islands by April 30 was 11,434 (a year before, it was 38,284). This had further been reduced by May 12 to 9,811.
The number of those living on islands awaiting their application reviews has dropped by 70% compared to the previous year, while those awaiting reviews in Greece as a total have been reduced in number by 40%, from 92,909 in April 2020 to 55,493 in April 2021.
