No, New York’s Avra Estiatorio Was Not Robbed: COVID-19 Cutthroating

September 12, 2020

With New York City restaurants unable to have indoor dining yet because of COVID-19 the competition between them has turned downright ugly, the New York Post reporting it was likely a rumor was spread to undermine the popular Greek restaurant Avra Estiatorio, that it had been robbed by gunmen who jumped out of a sedan while diners were at sidewalk tables.

An upscale restaurant with fine Greek food, it's a favorite of wealthy Upper East Siders anxious to get out of their luxury abodes and more humble folk alike and has sidewalk and street seating rights, giving it an advantage over competing places.

“We’re asked about it every day,” General Manager Glynna Schlesinger told the newspaper about the supposed stickup, the report saying it's fake news and that no police reports were filed at all.

The restaurant took to Instagram to deny it too. “There are false rumors going around that one of our locations – not identified – was robbed. This is NOT TRUE. Fake news travels fast, so we would like to inform all of our guests that these rumors are NOT TRUE,” it read. Talk about eat-and-gun. Run.
