Niko’s Michigan Taverna Will Fuse Sports Bar Theme With Greek Dishes

When Niko’s Taverna opens in Williamston, Michigan, possibly in April, it will have Greek dishes such as orzo and lamb but with a sports bar atmosphere, the town close to Lansing, home of the Michigan State Spartans.

Keith Buchele, General Manager for property owner Gavrilides Management, hopes it will have better luck than a bistro that closed earlier this year, said the Lansing State Journal.

“It’s a reanimation,” Buchele said. “We want to bring it back as something new, completely different from what’s been there before,” and the company is counting on Niko’s, using a menu similar to another place it manages, the Soup Spoon Cafe.

Niko’s Taverna will feature “all the classic Greek dishes, but not fine dining versions, more sports bar versions,” Buchele said. “Someplace where you can have a really nice beer, have a glass of wine, some food – and watch a game,” he said.

“With Niko’s, the idea was to narrow that focus a little bit, and really be able to deliver something that is not represented as much as we would like it to be in the area,” he said.
