New Greek Restaurant Estiatorio Ornos Opened September 18 in SF

September 23, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – Estiatorio Ornos a Michael Mina Restaurant, Chef Mina’s new Greek seafood eatery in downtown San Francisco, opened on September 18, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The location previously housed Mina’s flagship but “officially flipped” the restaurant to highlight seafood, Eater San Francisco reported on September 21.

Among the items on the menu, ouzo prawns with tomatoes and feta, “sole wrapped in a phyllo crust, and wild mushroom moussaka,” Eater San Francisco reported.

“This restaurant, along with the Miami location, is a collaboration with Las Vegas restaurateurs Girair ‘Jerry’ Goumroian and Nikolaos Georgousis, owners of the casual Meraki Greek Grill,” SFist reported in a previous article on the restaurant opening, adding that Mina told the Chronicle “that the menu will reflect what Goumroian and Georgousis grew up eating in Greece, as well as what Mina himself grew up eating in Egypt — where the food has always had a Greek influence.”

“Guests will feel transported to the eponymous Ornos Beach by the bright, airy, coastal aesthetic, the simplistic, flavorful Greek seafood dishes, and the warm yet relaxed Mediterranean-style of hospitality,” the restaurant’s website noted, adding that “A house playlist of Mykonos-inspired music beckons guests to sit and stay all evening, reveling in the array of sharable dishes, refreshing cocktails, intriguing wines, and a lively atmosphere.”

The 76-seat restaurant at 252 California Street is under the direction of Executive Chef Daniela Vergara, and “offers an enhanced dining style and social scene – representing Chef Mina’s adaptation, innovation, core culinary philosophies, and ongoing devotion to the City of San Francisco while paying homage to Greek cuisine and sensibilities,” according to the website.
