ATHENS – Making it easier for people to show proof they are vaccinated against COVID-19 in Greece, a new mobile phone app that’s becoming available will include elements of the police identity card, the holder’s photo and date of birth.
People wanting to enter indoor spots apart from supermarkets must produce vaccination certificates and their identity cards, a tedious process at stores where people who don’t have the information on phones have to reach into their bags or wallets to pull out verification papers.
The Covid Free GR app for mobile phones and tablets is aimed at making it easier for citizens to display proof of immunity when entering a store or an indoor venue where the unvaccinated are barred, noted Kathimerini.
Deputy Digital Governance Minister Theodoros Livanios told Parliment that,
“We have all noticed that when we go to a store, according to the measures that exist against the spread of the coronavirus, together with the certificate that we have on our mobile phone or in paper form, they ask us for the identity to see if the name coincides with the person who wants to enter a store.”
He said the app would soon be available and that the details will be incorporated in the app so that people will only be required to show one certificate to enter a COVID-free space.
