Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
KALAMATA – It’s been a long, strange journey from selling sunglasses as a young boy on the streets of Sepolia, a working class Athens neighborhood to the National Basketball League and now Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has added another crown: marriage.
He came to Greece and the luxury resort Costa Navarino on the Peloponnese to wed his long-time girlfriend – and mother of their three children – Mariah Riddlesprigger in a three-day event that featured a Nigerian style, after his other homeland before his family emigrated to Greece.
Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger, who share three children together, were wed in a “hybrid” Greek Orthodox and Catholic ceremony. Bucks forward Khris Middleton served as Antetokounmpo’s best man, said Sports Illustrated.
The two Bucks players have been teammates since 2013, when Antetokounmpo was drafted by the Bucks and when the Detroit Pistons traded Middleton to Milwaukee. Greece’s Proto Thema said the couple didn’t want media coverage of the event.
“Remarkably, everyone working on the wedding has signed a confidentiality agreement to ensure the couple’s complete privacy,” the newspaper reported but Eurohoops said guests included fellow superstar LeBron James, the Bucks’ owners, his teammate Jrue Holiday, tennis legend Serena Williams and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger began dating in 2014. The couple now have three children: a son Liam, born in February 2020; a son Maverick, born in August 2021; and a daughter Eva, born in September 2023.
Media reports said that many of the 200 or so guests reached the exclusive resort by boat from Ionian islands or taking helicopters after landing at Athens International Airport, avoiding a 3 ½-hour drive.
In October, Antetokounmpo will start his 12th season as one of the best players in the NBA. The Bucks superstar won back-to-back MVP awards in 2019 and 2020 and was NBA Finals MVP in Milwaukee’s 2021 NBA Championship in 2021.
Together, Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger are a force in the philanthropic world. They launched the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation in 2022 to support nonprofits in their local Milwaukee community and around the globe.
“I feel like it’s even more of a blessing because we get to do this together, it’s a partnership and I have a very good partner,” Antetokounmpo told CBS in October 2023, speaking about Riddlesprigger.

In May 2021, Riddlesprigger launched her own apparel brand Sincerely, Mariah, a collection of loungewear pieces inspired “by all of the remarkable people” she’s met over the years. During an interview with Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, Riddlesprigger explained that she first started working on the brand while Antetokounmpo was in the NBA bubble during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s stuff you can wear around the house, you can wear just running to the store,” she told the publication. “I’m big on comfort. If you see me around Milwaukee, I’m most likely in yoga pants or sweats and a sweatshirt. That’s my go-to, so I don’t want to stray too far from who I am.”
